Top 5 Favourite Novellas

I love those novellas that tell a different story within the main story. Normally they're about the best friend of the main character in the series, but sometimes they're a few exceptions. Here are my favourite 5 novellas of all time:

  • Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

The love story between Daniel and Six is as powerful as Sky and Dean's. They're some pretty intense moments  in here, but it made what they were feeling for each other much more stronger and meaningfull. This novella was quite a journey.

  • In Time by Alexandra Bracken

I actually cried when I finished reading this. I felt so much more reading this short story than with the book of this series. The Darkest Minds was a pretty amazing book, so of course I decided to pick this one. I was not aware of how much of a rollercoaster of emotions this was going to be. I completely forgot this was a novella until the final pages. I was so into the story. It made me smile, and laugh, and want to hug my pillow and cry very very hard.

  • Destroy Me by Tahereh Mafi

Tahereh Mafi made me root for the "bay" guy, you know why? Cause he isn't a really bad guy at all! We had a brave, sweet, spectacular love interest, but after this? He's so boring! Warner became SO interesting. He feels so deeply and now I completely believe Juliette and him are meant to be. One should see all the points of view before making a decision people. This novella changed my view on Shatter me and made me wish for a different ending!

  • Cloud Walking by A. Meredith Walters

Find you in the dark was such a hard book, and this novella was refreshing. I was so happy about their cloud walking love, and it was good seeing how it was completely different from Maggie and Clay's devouring, intense love. Daniel and Rachel's love was easy as breathing, when Maggie and Clay's was a struggle every single day. I love the contrast between the book and this novella.

  • Crossing The Line by Katie McGarry

I really loved Lila and Lincoln together: their story was so interesting and different! The letters were beautiful, and I think this could easily have been a book. I mean, write more about their letters, how they've met, more about his background story, and how they ended together in Florida and you've got a book! Still, cute story, and lovely romance, that everybody should read. It can be read independently from the other books as well.

So yeah, those were my favourite novellas. I completely recommend them, cause I ended up loving these wonderful stories. I enjoy as well all of The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare (& Sarah Rees Brennan, or Maureen Johnson): not so much the first two, but they keep getting better and better!

Finding Cinderella by Colleen Hoover

(It's very hard to find novellas as good as books, and I'm pleased to say that this is one of the exceptions.)

6 Stars to Colleen Hoover's new novella! This was PERFECTION. I just, ugh... so many feels right now. It's amazing how much I love this woman's stories.

This novella is from Holder's best friend Daniel's POV, and he's a sweetheart. He's funny as hell, but also very very sweet. Six and him are so right for each other, they're a great couple. The prologue was one of the best prologues I've ever read: there's so much emotion on it. Finding your exception is always a big deal, and Colleen portraited it beautifully in here.

We get to see Sky and Holder and Breckin again! I love Holden and Daniel's relationship: they're such good friends, always there for each other.
“For real,” I say. “You’re my best friend and I love you. I’m not ashamed to admit that I love a guy. I love you, Holder. Daniel Wesley loves Dean Holder. Always and forever.”
“Daniel, go make out with your girlfriend,” he says, waving me off.
I shake my head. “Not until you tell me you love me, too.”
His head falls back against Sky’s headboard. “I fucking love you, now GO AWAY!”
I grin. “I love you more.”
I laughed so hard during this scene.

There was a mayor twist that I didn't see coming AT ALL. Usually, either my best friend or me, guess the upcoming of the story and is frustrating at times, but this? I had no idea what was happening! It was so well done, I had to re read some parts to catch the meaning in some of the things Six said.
I want to re read and re read this story again. It is THAT good.

Anyone who hasn't read Colleen Hoover's books: GO-BUY-THEM-NOW. They're life changing stories.

The Boy Who Sneaks in my Bedroom Window by Kirsty Moseley

This book is no picnic. We get an epic romance, but there are a lot of factors that made it really difficult for them to be together. This book deals with very hard issues, like physical and mental domestic abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Jake and Amber had an abusive father since they were little kids. And one night, after receiving too many blows, Amber can’t stop crying, and their next door neighbor and Jake’s best friend, Liam, creeps into her bedroom window, and hugs her until she falls asleep in his arms.
After 8 years, they can’t fall asleep if it’s not in each other’s arms. Even though, they kicked their father out of the house five years ago, after he attempted rapping Amber, she still can’t sleep if it’s not in Liam’s arms or the nightmares will come back.
Jake doesn’t know that Amber and Liam sleep together every night, or he might freak out. The last thing he wants to see is her little sister with his best friend, so Liam had to put on a charade with Amber, pretending to be this mean manwhore during the day, and being his sweet self during their nights together.
“Night Liam was considerate, loving and thoughtful. Day Liam was a flirt, slut and a jerk. However, both night and day Liam made me feel safe and protected.”
He really is completely in love with her, since the first time he saw her. He even call her ‘Angel’ (something super cliché, but still sweet) and waits patiently for her to realize how much he loves her. Until finally happens!
They start dating, and fell head over heels for each other. They faced a lot of obstacles, (and I mean a lot of very traumatizing circumstances), always together.
They’re a great couple. They love each other unconditionally, and they fight together against all odds.
““But I don't want to ruin your future.”
“You are my future, Angel.””

This was a very emotional book, with lots of drama, and amazing main characters, that ends up with a very unconventional family, a group full of love and support towards each other. I wasn’t a fan of the writing style, filling it missing further review at times, but the story captivated me completely.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

This book was fantastic. I was enchanted from page one. I love Rainbow Rowell's writing style: you get sucked into Cath's head from the start.

I've never related to a character, as much as I did with Cath. We're both in the same stage of our life, we're both quiet, and we don't like crowds. But most of all, I can relate to her PASSION.
I went through that same thing with Harry Potter. I grew up with those books, waited years for their release, and when the final book came, I couldn't stop crying. I remember reading Dobby's death, and crying my eyes out. I had to stop for a couple of hours, cause I was such an emotional wreck.
And Simon Snow was to Cath, what Harry Potter was to me. If I could, I would erase all that series from my memory, so I can experience reading it all for the first time again.
And with this book as well. I have a massive hungover from this book! I will be re-reading it soon!

I love how Fanfiction was explained in this book. I never really get what it was, and it's clear in here. I understand completely Cath's love for writing in the Simon Snow world. Who wouldn't want to write about their favourite books, and play with its world?
Also, I love how this book shows that there's no age to loving something, as long as it doesn't take over your love.

I loved Levi! He was the best: the greatest guy, with a huge heart. I loved that he loved life, as passionate as he could.
It was really interesting how Rowell portraited him: having a reading deficiency, but being a great listener, with an incredible memory. I loved that he listened to audiobooks, because he couldn't focus, and remembered EVERYTHING.
"Cath realized that she’d started doing Simon and Baz’s voices— at least doing the version of their voices that she heard in her head. She glanced over at Levi to see if he’d noticed. He was holding his cup with both hands against his chest and resting his chin on top, like it was keeping him warm. His eyes were open but unfocused. He looked like a little kid watching TV."
The romance between him and Cath was beautiful. I love that we get to see their relationship progressing, and how they went from friends to something else.
“You’re not the ugly one.” Levi grinned. “You’re just the Clark Kent.”
Cath started checking her e-mail.
“Hey, Cath,” Levi said, kicking her chair. She could hear the teasing in his voice. “Will you warn me when you take off your glasses?”

Cath's family is a big topic in this book: we have the workaholic father, the independent wannabe twin, and the absent mother. The absent mother plays a big role: she's what defined every member of the family. All of them changed after she left, that September 11th.
We see a lot of struggling in the family, cause they all love, and depend on each other a lot, but they try at the same time, to deal with their issues by themselves.

Reagan was awesome! She was a badass, with a good head on her shoulders. She was very rational, and didn't take any bullshit, and that's what makes her Cath's perfect friend.
Levi, Reagan and Cath together, were the perfect trio, and their interactions were so funny!

I loved this book very much. I wanted to know more, like if Carry on, Simon was finally released, and what she ends up doing with her life after college, but despite that, I wouldn't change a thing about it. A must read for all of those who love reading, and have that special series, or number of books that they'll never forget, and that they keep safe in their hearts.

Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt

This book was beautiful. I cried so much, with this emotional story.

June was a fourteen year old girl who preferred to live in another era, cause she didn't felt part of her time, and was completely misunderstood. The only person who got her was her uncle Finn, who was dying from AIDS.
Their relationship was lovely, and it made me want to find someone with such close interests as them.
When he died at the beginning of the book, I was disappointed that we didn't get to much about their relationship, and him, but there were enough flashbacks and stories of Finn, and you couldn¡t help loving him.

After he dies, June finds out that her uncle had a secret lover, called Toby, who wanted to meet Finn's beloved niece. They share their grief, learning a lot from each other, and seeing a side of Finn they didn't know. Their time together, the slow develop in the relationship made you want to keep reading to found out about their next step.
“I just thought, maybe we’re supposed to try to, you know, move on,” I said.
Toby glanced up. I thought he’d looked older when I saw him earlier, but now, without the coat, he seemed younger. Shrunk down to nothing. He cocked his head and stared at me with a puzzled expression.
“But where would we move to?”

June was a great narrator. She was selfless and caring, and humble. I only wished she could have reacted to some of Greta's offences and her mother's comments.

I didn't like Greta for most of the book. She was really mean to June, and I wanted to slap her. But Greta is a really complex character: she's not a mean girl at all, only lonely and screaming for affection. She resented June and Finn for leaving her as the third wheel, who was only interrupting their happiness. She acted the wrong way, though: she should have spoken up, and told June that she wanted to spend more time with her.

June's mother was complex as well. She resented Toby for keeping her brother away, and was unfair to Finn. She was also ashamed of the life she had achieved and of putting away her dream of being an artist, and travel the world. I was expecting a fight from her at the end, considering her firm decision of staying away from Toby, but she came around quickly, making a wise choice. She embraced Toby in his hour of need, and somehow he ended up at peace with her.

I wanted to see more about Ben: he was an interesting and different character, who could have enriched June's life so much more. There's an open end for them, and I can imagine some happy ending for them.

I completely love this book. It was a great story, that radiated so much emotion, with complicated and unique characters. I recommend it to those who are ready to read a beautiful story, that they won't forget soon.

What I Didn't Say by Keary Taylor

I didn't expect this story: it was better that what I had anticipated. I loved it, and it's amazing characters.

Jake, the main character, is someone with a huge heart and a good head on top of his shoulders. He knows what is important, and despite what happens to him, he didn't sulk a lot, and instead focused on the important things, such as Samantha's situation.

I did not see coming what was going with Samantha. It took me completely by surprise, and made me love all the characters involved even more.
Samantha was brave and smart, but she has fear of letting herself love people, because of what happened to her parents. I thought that was rather silly, and cliché. She wasn't necessarily going to repeat her parents's story, and it was dumb to fear something that could possibly not happen. If we let fear take over our lives, we wouldn't do anything at all!
So, yeah, when she starts hanging out with Jake, their lives start to change, for the better. He realized that are worse things in the World than being mute, and she realized that sometimes it's okay to let people help you, and into your life.

The romance between them was really sweet. It's completely obvious that they're both crazy for each other.
I loved reading his thoughts, the things he wanted to say when she was around him, and how at times, she said the exact same thing he wished he could say.

His family is this huge, supportive family, with a lot of people with different personalities, but who love one another no matter what. I loved to read when all the Hayes brothers and sisters were together, and when their mom threw those big meals for everyone who wanted to go. It was really sweet how they all accepted Sam into their family, like it was nothing.

I completely recommend this book, full of drama, romance, and companionship, that leaves a great message to all their readers: Always say what you're afraid to say.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz

I can’t stop thinking about this book. I love it. It was such a powerful and poetic story.

The writing style is fantastic. Benjamin Alire Sáenz can say so much, with so little. It’s a very fast read: you’re sucked into the story from the very first page, and you can’t stop.

The story is told from Aristotle’s POV. I love how insightful he wrote Aristotle. Every reflection of him was precious.
“That afternoon, I learned two new words. “Inscrutable.” And “friend.”
“I hated being volunteered. The problem with my life was that it was someone else’s idea.”

Though we have Aristotle’s narrative, we get to know each character really well: the beautiful and cheerful Dante, and the loyal and profound parents. Every description, every detail impacted me, and brought more to life these amazing characters.

The relationship between Dante and Ari was perfect. THEY completed each other perfectly. I couldn’t ask for more with them: their conversations, their feelings, and their companionship were something wonderful to read. Dante and Ari together, their connection, was extraordinary.
"“That’s a very Dante question,” I said.
“That’s a very Ari answer,” he said.
And then we started laughing and couldn’t stop. And I missed him so much."

This book was about two main journeys. One: A journey of self- discovery for Ari and Dante, where they hit a lot of bumps of their road, and have to decide on moving forward or backwards. Two: a journey of understanding those around them, and how their influence can affect their own life. I was magnificently displayed throughout the book.

I feel so happy after reading this. It touches some deep, honest topics such as love, acceptance, loyalty, friendship and bravery, in an exquisite, unforgettable way. I don’t think I’ll ever feel about the rain the same way after reading this.
If you’re ready to want to jump up and down from happiness, and cry, and have your head spin from all the thinking, I completely recommend this book.

Prepare yourself to discover the secrets of their universe.

Vain by Fisher Amelie

This is the story of Sophie Price, a sophisticated girl from California, who is the epitome of vain. She uses her beauty to make people like her, and she loves herself, because she doesn’t feel like anyone else does. She does a lot of bad things, like manipulating, lying, using drugs, and cheating to get her way, but in the inside she feels unloved, and alone.

I thought the setting of this book was going to be high society, so I was shocked, when she’s sent to an orphanage in Uganda, where the story really begins…
She met a lot of amazing, selfless people that teach her lots of values, and great lessons in human kindness.
I loved them all: the grown- ups, the kids… you learn a lot of things from each and every one of the characters in this book. It’s such an incredible run, and one much greater than what Sophie expected, cause she ends up in a journey of self- discovery, where she realizes that the real beauty lies within.

I love Sophie: all her bad actions came from a scared girl that only wanted to be loved. She had a good heart, and a golden will.  She’s completely able of giving all her love away, and is willing to accept it in return.
Ian/Dingane is stunningly beautiful as well, inside and out. It’s impossible not to love him, when being so considerate, passionate, and kind.
“Sophie Price, you are the most beautiful girl I’ve ever met,” he stated before turning my direction and staring me dead in the eyes. “You are so gosh damn beautiful in here,” he said, tapping my chest, “that what’s here,” he spoke, running the side of his hand down my face, “is magnified tenfold and that is a sight to behold.”
The romance between this two is completely lovely, and one another complete the other so well, that was breathtaking to read their interactions.

This book was beautiful. I didn’t expect to love it like I did. It was such an inspiring, heart-breaking story, that made me want to cry and smile and laugh all the time, filled with emotion, and enwrap in the story. A complete must read.
